Commissioned by Underbelly/Edinburgh’s Hogmanay, November–December 2021
Having been involved in a relatively small capacity as part of Fare Well, the three-part video project produced for Edinburgh’s Hogmanay 2020, we were invited to take full creative responsibility to produce a film to mark the 2021 celebrations.
We quickly identified that the essence of the project would be to communicate four different perspectives associated with Scotland’s New Year celebrations. We partnered with the recently appointed Scots Makar, Kathleen Jamie, and the acclaimed folk band Rura, to produce a film that brought together film, music and words in exploring the complexity of emotion that New Year can present, as well as celebrating Scotland’s natural beauty.
We were responsible for identifying and casting all actors and taking care of all the associated logistical arrangements. Despite the tight timeframe from the initial commission to delivery, we fulfilled the brief well within the agreed time.
The film was met with an overwhelmingly positive response both from the commissioners and viewers across the world. It has now received almost 500,000 views across different platforms, a figure that continues to grow.
Recruitment film for Forecast, Edinburgh Data Solutions Consultancy • September–October 2021
In the autumn of last year, we were commissioned to produce a short film for Forecast. Forecast is a privately owned data solutions company based in Edinburgh, with offices in Australia and Poland. It is a rapidly growing firm within an ever-expanding industry and, as such, is keen to attract the best global talent within the field.
The company’s CEO and senior management team have strong feelings about the type of candidate they wish to attract and that they feel might best integrate within the Forecast culture. Therefore, they wanted to produce a film that stood out from similar offerings representing their competitors. Our film was framed around the expression of their four core company values, with members of the team reflecting upon how their own professional experiences have corresponded with these to date.
We wanted to capture authentic reflections and experiences, to help create a film that might speak clearly to suitable candidates and not seem staged or contrived. Data scientists are, perhaps unsurprisingly (!), often somewhat introverted by nature, and the Forecast management team was concerned that live, on-camera interviews may not be the best way to gain insights from the team. However, we were able to allow the staff to relax and speak both clearly and openly, and express the diversity of experience, backgrounds and opportunities at the company.
Following the delivery of this project, we have received a significant amount of thanks and positive feedback from Forecast, as well as commissions for future work to be completed later this year.
